Marc Ecko Buys Controversial Ball
Marc Ecko created the urban clothing line Ecko Unlimited from his dorm room when he was 20. That's smart. He also bought the Barry Bonds home run ball for $752,467.00. Smart?
At first mention many would say that the purchase is a rich egocentric's souvenir. If you read more about the purchase you will find it is quite the opposite.
On the website www.vote756.com Marc explains that he "bought the baseball to democratize the discussion of what to do with it. The idea that some of the best athletes in the country are forced to decide between being competitive and staying natural is troubling."
Marc is not a guy that wanted to buy a shelf decoration with the intention of making his ego bulletproof. He bought the ball to make a point. Marc's purchase and the message attached to it demands that Americans look farther into their sports. We need to stop getting distracted by big numbers and see what is really going on.
